Your lawn changes from season to season, so why shouldn’t your Utah lawn care? After all, you want the perfect yard.
Keep reading to find out how you can keep your lawn looking healthy all year long.
Spring
When it comes to lawn care, springtime is all about preparation. Here are some things you can do to prep for the green lawn of your dreams:
- Lawn mower maintenance- Now’s the perfect time to sharpen up dull lawn mower blades, add a new spark plug and air filter, and replace the gas in your tank.
- Clear up your lawn- Rake up any old leaves or stray twigs that may have found their way into your yard during the winter in order to make way for herbicides and fertilizer.
- Aerate your lawn- By putting small holes in your lawn you’re making way for oxygen and fertilizers to reach the roots of your grass.
- Fertilize your lawn- Lay down fertilizer when your grass grows its most actively.
- Pre-emergent herbicides- By applying a pre-emergent herbicide when the soil of your lawn reaches 58 degrees you’re preventing weeds from taking root.
Summer
Summertime lawn care and maintenance is vital to make sure you can enjoy your lawn to the fullest extent. With that being said, here’s what you can do:
- Watch out for larvae- Beetles like to lay eggs in the soft spots of lawns, so if you notice brown spots in your lawn it may be time to check for larvae. If you find more than 10 grubs per square foot, it’s time to treat your lawn with a chemical pesticide.
- Mow intentionally- Set your blades to 3 inches high so you don’t cut your grass too short. The taller the grass the more moisture it can hold, and the deeper its roots are. Clean out the bottom of your mower at least once a month to prevent spreading any lawn diseases.
- Water deeply and infrequently- This is better for your lawn than frequent sprinkler waterings and helps the roots of your grass to grow deeper
Fall
Utah lawn care starts to wind down in the fall as the weather cools. Here are a couple of tips to keep in mind for the harvest season:
- Patch where necessary- If you find any thin spots in your grass now is the time to re-seed them.
- Keep debris out- Make sure to regularly rake leaves and sticks out of your lawn.
Winter
In Utah it’s likely your lawn will be covered in snow during this time, so there’s not a laundry list of lawn care that you can perform. However, you can focus on keeping your lawn free of debris and storing your lawn care tools properly so they will be rust-free and ready to go come spring.
